This document will guide you in creating an ALEOS AF application that leverages the AirVantage Application Services platform to transmit, receive and remotely store data. A command will be included that can be sent from the AirVantage portal and executed by the application on the device. A data model that defines the data elements will be designed, and the application with the data model will be exported and uploaded to the AirVantage portal. That application can be installed on devices from the platform.

ALEOS Application Framework (AAF) provides developers a complete set of building blocks and tools for creating applications that run inside Sierra Wireless AirLink Gateways. AAF extends the proven ALEOS built-in embedded intelligence and integrates with the AirVantage Cloud Platform in order to offer developers and customers a platform for creating tailored end-to-end M2M solution.
ALEOS AF AirVantage Application Services
The ALEOS Application Framework provides the means to create embedded applications that run inside ALEOS devices. These embedded applications can interact with the ALEOS parameters and can access attached devices or assets. In the ALEOS AF, the AirVantage library provides access to the AV Application Services. These services provide the means to send data from the embedded application to the AV server, and from the server to the embedded application to set variable values on the device and send commands to be executed on the device.

Sierra Wireless is providing an ALEOS Application Framework Developer Kit accessory that can be purchased through approved re-sellers to provide developers a real-life working example of monitoring & controlling physical equipment.
Specifically the AAF Developer Kit accessory includes a CrystalFontz Serial Character LCD, CFA533, with input buttons. This is paired with a sample embedded application and sample server application that demonstrate how to use the AirVantage Application Framework to remotely control and monitor the CFA533.
