The router can be configured to report status information from an external modem.
Current support is limited to High Power User Equipment (HPUE) modems from the following vendors:
- Assured Wireless AW12
- AirGain Connect Antenna Modem
Prerequisite: Modems are connected to the router via an Ethernet Injector (EI).
To configure an external modem to connect with the router:
On the router, go to Hardware Interfaces > Ethernet Interfaces and configure the Ethernet port as WAN.
a. Disable WAN AUTO DETECT.
b. Leave LAN Segment blank.
Connect the EI Ethernet port to an Ethernet port on the router.
Go to System > External Modems > Configuration. Enable the external modem. The router begins monitoring the external modem. The MAC prefix will be the MAC address of the interface on the Ethernet port of the EI that is connected to the router. The Assured Wireless EI MAC prefix of 34:ba:9a is preloaded for HPUE modems. If the EI uses a different MAC prefix, then it can be edited to a different value.
Ensure the EI is configured to enable status reporting.
For the Assured Wireless EI, the field Modem Status API which is found at System Settings > Expert Configuration > System > EI Configuration > API Configuration must be enabled.
To verify that the external modem is recognized, go to Status/Monitoring > System > External Modem. In ALMS, you can view External Modem statistics in the System Info widget.
If the external modem does not appear in the Status/Monitoring > Systems > External Modem section, then verify that it is connected to the correct Ethernet WAN port and powered on.
If the statistics shown on the Status/Monitoring panel are incomplete, perform a Synchronize System in ALMS.
