The Shutdown Reason report displays the shutdowns of gateways within a specified time period. This report can be used to detect both normal and abnormal shutdowns (e.g. due to a loss of power).
The report displays the gateway ESN/name that was shutdown, date/time, reason, an indication of whether the shutdown was unclean (e.g. due to an unexpected power loss) and GPS location for each shutdown.
The Unclean Shutdown column contains the value Yes if the gateway didn’t go through the full shutdown procedure. The general cause is the removal of input power while in operation, however software issues such as a kernel panics for
example, can cause it as well.
The following are explanations of the individual cases that may appear in the Reason column:
Power Loss: power was removed but the shutdown process succeeded. This could be a manual power down.
Power Loss (where Unclean Shutdown is Yes): input power was removed and the unit did not shutdown properly. Possible scenarios where this can occur include:
gateway power that is connected to an ignition fuse panel or charge guards where the gateway shutdown delay is greater than the charge guard delay.
pulling the power cord to reboot.
Hardware Watchdog (where Unclean Shutdown is Yes): there is a watchdog process on the MCU module that MGOS contacts periodically. If contact isn’t made within a specified time frame the MCU power cycles the gateway. In this situation the core software is assumed to be hung and cannot shutdown as intended.
Voltage Threshold: indicates that the input voltage dropped below the value set in General -> Shutdown; this can indicate battery issues.
Ignition (where Unclean Shutdown is Yes): the gateway shut down because ignition was turned off. Normally this shouldn’t shouldn’t be an unclean shutdown since it’s a normal operation but this may occur if the gateway power is connected to an ignition fuse panel.
Note:
The MG90 will run at 7 VDC.
A gateway can sustain voltage drops to 5 volts for a short period of time. When starting an engine the starter motor initially draws a lot of power and can cause battery voltage to drop below the minimum 7 volts for short periods (milliseconds). The MG90 has the capability of overcoming this while oMG 2000s cannot.
Configuration Fields
Gateway(s)*: by default this is set to the gateway(s) selected in the gateway tree. Enter the name(s) manually to modify this field. Click on Filter to open the subfilter options.
Report time range*: use the drop-down menu to select from Previous Months, Previous Weeks, Previous Days or Range. Enter the numeric value in the field. When Range is selected, use the calendar pop-up to select the dates. Alternatively, enter the date and time manually (yyyy/mm/dd hh:mm).
Shutdown reasons categories filter: when None is deselected, options for filtering the report based on shutdown reasons become available. Selecting items from the Available Items list and then clicking -> will add them to the Selected Items list. The report will then show events in which a shutdown occurred for one of the reasons in the Selected Items list. If None is selected, then the filtering items become unavailable and all shutdown events will be displayed in the report.
Output Format: select HTML to generate the report in the browser window. Select Excel to display the generated report in Microsoft Excel.
